PPF on a Lotus Emira
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a Lotus Emira to our Hampshire detailing studio. Lotus recently released this new model, which is undoubtedly an important car for them. They intend for it to be a direct competitor to the Porsche Cayman. Compared to other Lotus models, it’s pretty luxurious inside and feels a huge positive step forward over the car it replaces, the Evora. Read on to discover all the details of how we installed PPF on a Lotus Emira.
PPF on a Lotus Emira:
About the car:
This car was a First Edition, in Sport spec (there is also a Touring spec), and in our opinion, it is utterly gorgeous! Our client is a big Lotus fan and owns a Series 2 Lotus Exige in the same colour as this. He still has the factory PPF on that car and has benefitted hugely from its protection whilst he has toured Europe and taken part in track days. Our client will similarly use the Emira, so PPF was an obvious choice.
Preparation:
The client also asked that we carry out our New Car Detail Package before installing PPF. So we carefully cleaned the vehicle and chemically and physically decontaminated it before finally machine polishing it. Only after all this preparatory work was complete did we move on to the PPF installation. Once that was complete, we ceramic coated the paint not covered in the film.
PPF Installation:

There are some unusual panels and shapes on the Emira, so it needs a bit of thinking about while installing film. For example, the bonnet has to be unbolted to be opened, and once done, access can be had to the huge front wings. The cutout shape of the bonnet means the wings extend inwards to the centre of the car and need a large piece of film to cover them. It also involves some subtle and strange twists to get the correct tension on the film and needs careful handling to avoid marking the adhesive.
We enjoyed working on this car. We love the marque. It doesn’t matter who owns it these days, it’s a great British car manufacturer, and we enjoy working on them.
The Result:
Our client was delighted with the result, which meant he could complete the running in mileage!
