PPF For Matte Paint – Client Showcase
As PPF specialists based close to Basingstoke in Hampshire, clients often ask us about PPF for matte paint.
Matte paintwork on vehicles is particularly delicate. People see the different paint finish on your car and can’t help but touch it. Unfortunately, the oils on their fingertips leach into the porous paint finish and permanently damage it. There is no way to repair this once it has happened. So, the best thing to do is protect it from the outset. Xpel Stealth film is the perfect solution.
In this week’s article, we thought we’d share a recent project on an exceptional car. Read on for all the details.
Xpel Stealth – PPF for Matte Paint – Client Showcase
The Car:
This car is considered the pinnacle of the BMW F10 Model, made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the M5. Only thirty of this model was allocated to the U.K. (out of 300 in total, worldwide).

This vehicle has all the extra options, it’s also been tuned to produce 600bhp (making it the most powerful production BMW sold at the time of release), and of course, the icing on the cake was the special matte Frozen paint finish.
So, as you can imagine, we were delighted when our client brought this vehicle into our detailing studio, close to Basingstoke in Hampshire.
The Why:
This was our client’s first car with matte paint, and having done some research, he had already decided that he wanted PPF protection. But, unfortunately, the installation had been delayed due to moving house. During the move, someone accidentally dragged a box along the nearside front wing, leaving a scratch. If that had been a gloss paint finish, it probably would be just polished out. But, being matte, it had to be repainted. If the PPF had been installed beforehand, it’s unlikely the box would have even left a mark at all. So, once able to, our client was even keener to get the installation complete.
The Installation:
The preparation for any PPF installation always involves a safe wash. With this particular job, and bearing in mind, this was PPF for matte paint, we placed a little more emphasis on chemical decontamination. Furthermore, we completed a very light claying to remove physical specs of bonded dirt from the paint.
The four-day installation was relatively straightforward, and the patterns from Xpel were, as usual, excellent.

The Reaction:
Our client was delighted with the finished vehicle. While visually, it wasn’t a transformation (because the best PPF installs are the ones you can’t see), he left our studio safe in the knowledge that his car is well protected, easy to care for, and will stay looking great.
